Welcome to my Weebly,
Hi there! I am Jillian Penfield and I am part of the Class of 2016 at Nipmuc Regional High School. During my underclassmen years at Nipmuc, I thought I wanted to be a Graphic Designer, or Architect. Something with art. However, at the end of my Sophomore year, I came to school on a Saturday morning for 3 hours to learn for the Harvard TechGirlz how to code. This is when my love for Computer Science began. My Junior year I took AP Computer Science and absolutely loved it. I loved the projects and I would even code on my own just to create something at home. It wasn't work to me, it was fun. Now as a Senior, I took HTML/JavaScript Web Development online at Framingham State University and an Independent Study CS course. Through these classes I not only expanded my knowledge of CS but also explored a little bit of Computer Engineering. We built our own Game Boys and a computer for our teacher. In the future I will be attending University of Rochester majoring in Computer Science. For some short term goals, I'd like to make sure I get involved in the Women in Computing club at U of R. I want to make sure women don't feel intimidated coming into a male-dominated field. Sure, this is a big goal, but the WIC club is a good start. For a long term goal, eventually I'd like to have an internship at Google. I want to experience their work environment at some point in my life as I have heard it is one of the most amazing companies to work at in the world. And to send you off to my Weebly, I will be leaving you with a list of my top work ethics.
- Being an expert is hard to achieve but valuable to have.
- To be outgoing, is to be not normal.
- Responsibility is earned not given.
- Competing with others is fine, if the only "other" is your previous self.
